Embedded Machine Learning Specialist (Adelaide, South Australia)

IQonIC/ASTC is seeking a highly talented Embedded Machine Learning Specialist in Adelaide, South Australia, to lead the development of on-device machine learning capabilities on a new RISC-V 32-bit microcontroller, determine what can be achieved on the silicon, bring up and optimize the relevant ML frameworks, and build customer-focused demonstration systems for industrial control.

You will need to have:

  • Minimum of 5 years of professional embedded software development experience
  • Demonstrated experience with embedded machine learning architectures and infrastructure
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Electronic Engineering

Highly Desirable Skills:

  • Hands-on experience developing for 32-bit MCU devices
  • Familiarity with one or more embedded ML frameworks such as TensorFlow Lite Micro, TinyML, uTensor, Edge Impulse, muRISCV-NN, JAX, or ExecuTorch
  • Working knowledge of the RISC-V instruction set architecture and, ideally, vector extensions (Zve*/ RVV)
  • Exposure to industrial control systems
  • Experience contributing to or influencing hardware architecture decisions – for example through co-design, accelerator definition, or ISA extension proposals
Scope of the role:
To set clear expectations, this role is focused on constrained-device, on-MCU machine learning. It is not:
  • A large language model (LLM) role
  • A machine vision role in the traditional camera-and-GPU sense.
  • A supercomputer-, server-, or cloud-based AI role

If your interests and expertise sit firmly in tightly resources-bounded embedded ML – squeezing meaningful intelligence into kilobytes of SRAM and a vector-capable 32-bit core – then submit your application and resume to careers@astc-design.com or complete the form below.
